Checking a Forex Dealer for U.S. Customers: A Registration and Identity Worksheet

Before depositing with a forex provider, verify the exact entity and the rules that apply to the offered product.

Authenticate the communication channel

An impersonator can quote a genuine firm's registration number. Independently obtain verified contact details and confirm that the website, representative and offer belong to the entity in the record. Do not rely only on the phone number or link in an unsolicited message. Watch for lookalike domains and changes in payment instructions. Verification should connect the official identity to the actual person receiving the deposit, not stop after finding a real company with a similar name.

Read risk and account documents

Review execution policies, fees, financing, margin, liquidation, withdrawals and dispute procedures. Ask how customer funds are treated and what protections apply to this exact account type. Do not assume bank-deposit insurance or securities protections apply to an OTC forex balance. Read any required loss-related disclosures and avoid treating historical customer outcomes as a forecast for yourself. If documents conflict with a salesperson's promise, obtain clarification through an authenticated channel rather than relying on the more attractive statement.

Check the payment destination

The receiving account should be consistent with the verified legal arrangement. Requests to pay an individual, unrelated entity or unverified digital-asset address require careful scrutiny. A test withdrawal can be part of an operational check, but early successful payments do not prove that a scheme is legitimate; some frauds use them to encourage larger deposits. Keep records of instructions and confirmations. Never send additional money solely because an unverified platform claims a special release fee is needed to unlock displayed profits.

Treat due diligence as ongoing

Recheck material changes in ownership, status, domain, account terms or payment arrangements. Use official complaint channels if concerns arise, and preserve evidence. Registration is a threshold question about a legal framework, not an endorsement of a strategy or a promise that losses cannot occur. This worksheet does not recommend a broker. Its purpose is to make verification specific enough that a customer can identify gaps before committing money to a high-risk product.
